No infant is easy to look after. Sure, some are more demanding than others. But there’s no such thing as an easy baby. Doing simple tasks become incredibly difficult when you have a baby in the picture. That’s why working out seems almost impossible. Here are a few tips to help you find the time to exercise, no matter how needy your baby is.
- Work around your nursing schedule
After only a few days of motherhood, you probably realize that life revolves around your baby’s schedule. In order to find time to exercise, you need to plan it around your baby’s nursing and sleeping schedule. Whether you plan on exercising for 20 minutes or 60, pick a time when you know your baby will be full and happy. Otherwise, you’ll be cutting your workouts short.
- You can skip the gym
If you have a dedicated babysitter and/or enough time, going to the gym is great. But, I found that making it to the gym was almost impossible. Instead, I saved time by working out at home. You don’t even need equipment. There are plenty of exercises that you can do without weights or machines. In future posts, I’ll go over some awesome at-home workouts.
- Make every little bit count
Only have time for 50 crunches? Don’t get discouraged. Make the most of your time by using perfect form, or using a more advanced technique. To make crunches harder, try doing them on a physioball. Every exercise can be moderated to be more difficult, allowing you to get in a harder workout during a shorter period of time.
- Exercise with your little one
My son is very needy. Even at one year old, he makes it hard to get away for a workout. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to exercise with your baby. While you’re walking your bundle of joy in the stroller, do walking squats. Or, do calf raises while you rock your baby to sleep. When my son was about 4 months, he loved laying on my stomach while I did crunches. Think of ways to do different types of exercises while you’re with your baby. It makes life much easier.
